What is it?
The London Laureate Tour is a city-wide project to engage more young people in poetry. It is managed by Spread the Word and supported by the Young Poet Laureate for London, Caleb Femi.
Throughout October, Caleb Femi will be touring libraries in Newham, Merton, Croydon, Barking and Dagenham and Bexley. Young people across London are turning their libraries into creative poetry hubs for the tour, and acting as event planners, stage managers, promoters and performers.
Where will it happen?
If you live in Newham, Merton, Croydon, Barking and Dagenham and Bexley, you can get involved in your local library.
When is it?
This project will be taking place throughout September and October.
How?
Groups of young people will work with local libraries and local poets to plan and run a poetry event for their community. What you do as part of the project will depend on how you want to be involved.
As part of the London Laureate Tour you might:
• Plan and run a poetry-themed event in your library
• Perform your poetry in front of a live audience
• Take part in poetry-writing workshops
• Take part in training on how to promote a live event
• Discover new ways of engaging with poetry
• Contribute to a list of poetry recommendations for young people
